It should down internet mail systems by clogging them with infected e-mails from the worm virus (copies and spreads the same program. It is popular for spam senders). The Melissa virus was not originally intended to cause harm but with the mass emailing, that is exactly what it did. The virus was inside a file called “LIST.DOC”. If it was downloaded and opened, then the macro in the document copied itself and attempted to mass email most likely through your contact list. It was first found on March 26, 1999.
