Frog skin may become a new treatment for diabetes
July 9, 2008 4:23 am HealthResearchers say that a South American shrinking frog may become the next best treatment for defeating diabetes with its skin secretions.
A compound that is isolated from the frog stimulates insulin release. New drugs could possibly be produced with a synthetic version of the compound and given to type 2 diabetes patients whose body does not produce adequate amounts of insulin. Type 2 diabetes is associated with being overweight and the body’s inability to produce insulin.
This study is part of a growing body of work focused on anti-diabetic drug discovery.
Until more studies like these become concrete, the best remedies for defeating diabetes still include healthy lifestyle practices that reduce risks and complication.
