European privacy bureaucrats look the other way as strict privacy rules are violated by their own industries, while strictly enforcing those rules against foreign competitors. (The Germans may be the only exception to this). Obama is imitating this European legal advice forum model, which is ineffectual in protecting privacy, but effective in disadvantaging foreign competition. No surprise there.

Had he been serious, the President would have appointed Professor Larry Lessig, who is at least serious about this issue, and has some interesting ideas about using technology tools to protect privacy, as opposed to purely legal rules.

I live in Texas and if toy-related promotions could violate consumer advice protection laws in this state I would like to see the law changed in Texas to drop this provision. Baseball cards and other trading cards are usually sold with gum, could they also violate consumer protection laws in Texas? In Texas and the nation we live with freedom and choices every day and I want to be able to continue to make free choices. I do believe in freedom of speech and I’m for more transparency, so let these people have their say but that’s as far as it goes.

The notion of sexual exclusity in heterosexual funny marriage advice is an ideal, but one that is often flouted in practice. I’ve seen estimates for adultery go as high as fifty percent. Whatever the actual number of adulterers is, one has to admit that there is a noted percentage of heterosexuals who practice open marriage, in fact, if not in name. Since we can’t get 100 percent compliance on this issue, why not throw the baby out with the bath water and just ban all marriages?

We can’t because marriage is also a legal institution, designed to protect property and familial rights and obligations. The right to not be denied access to a dying family member, the right to inherit the home that you’ve lived in with your partner for years – those are the basic rights that same-sex couples want and need. As someone who has been married to the same man for nearly twenty-three years, I want those rights to be extended to them. With any luck, the state in which I live will be doing so this afternoon.

What are you going on about ? Underneath of all this opinionated morality subterfuge that is puerile and going nowhere lies the real issue which is dating advice for women‘s health. Reproductive health care is a huge part of feminine health care. This is not a moral or even religious issue , but a matter that remains between women, their families, and their doctor. Neither the government, nor you , nor the church have any right to interfere with such a personal and basic freedom which is why near 100% of Catholic women use birth control. None of this should even be open to discussion and our failure of a Congress is wasting time and money with a cheap political ploy. As if they have nothing better to do.

My Analysis On “Roger W. Ferguson Jr.: Riding Herd on Company Management”

The large pension funds are the best candidates for cleaning up much of the mess in corporate debt management advice in America. However, I have seen almost no evidence they intend to do so. I wonder why; maybe they are run by people with little to no real experience working on the front lines of publicly traded companies, so they have no idea what to even investigate. It may have to do with the ridiculous regulatory environment imposed by Congress and the SEC. It may also have to do with the crony capitalism so often in evidence (see, conflict of interest, in the article).

There are a number of actions they could take that would shake things up. Some are expensive (see, regulations, above). Some of them are almost free (Just Vote No!). Some would throw upper management into a tizzy (don’t just talk to the Board and upper management, those are the very people at fault; talk with the middle and lower echelon people, they know what is going wrong, and can admit it without blame because they are usually blameless).

There are lots and lots of other actions that can be taken to deal with the problem. I have yet to see any of them taken (well, OK, I’ve seen a couple of instances, but they were half-hearted at best). Pathetic.

Typical right winger. Uber rich white men ship millions of our jobs over seas, and yet somehow it is the fault of the newly laid off person that they don’t have a job!?!?!? (if ONLY he/they had agreed to work for slave wages then they jobs would not have been moved…..oh wait! Slave level wages are not enough to raise a family on! Those darn poor people always expecting to eat and stuff…I mean just because the US grows more food than any other nation [on the vast tracks of land poor people were kicked off of...], why do its citizens always demand a share? ).

Senators Kerry, Clinton, and Edwards all believed Iraq had WMD’s. So did President Clinton. I suppose Vice President Gore did, too. So, why would you believe anything they say on any subject?

George, I must say. You really need to do some homework. Like all global warming believers I have met (And I meet a lot in my neck of the woods), you believe based on belief, not facts. Hard to argue with belief. And, shrillness in place of logic.

Well, here is some eharmony advice. If you are confused about a topic, just follow the money and watch what they do, not what they say.

Government never attracted the best and the brightest. If they had, as Ronald Reagan said, business would have hired them away.

That’s the beauty advice of the American system of government (as it was originally designed, not as it has been distorted since the Progressive Era and the New Deal). It doesn’t require geniuses to run it. In fact, the system was originally designed to prevent the machinations of evil geniuses like Woodrow Wilson, FDR, and Obama.

If we returned government to its correct, limited role, it wouldn’t need to attract the best and the brightest. They would do what was intended, and innovate, create companies and jobs, and create wealth. That’s the American way.
