To combat the use of a poorly reflecting background when making up a number plate and also the use of football crests and car make logos, new legislation and a new british standard has been introduced. A plain white background for the front and plain yellow for the rear is required with only the euro flag as an option. To enable this to be enforced suppliers must print their name and postcode on the bottom of each background so that the number plate is traceable back to them. Each supplier must also be registered with DVLA so trading standards and police can easily visit them.
